To the SD61 community,
I’m so grateful for the many hands and hearts of Rightsholders, staff, families and caregivers, educational and community partners, and volunteers who continually put students at the forefront to maximize their potential and help them achieve their aspirations. It takes a community to support all 20,000+ SD61 students, so thank you for choosing to be a part of it. I am humbled by your ongoing dedication to students.
I have so much gratitude for the dedicated educators, staff, and engaged families in the district who enhance opportunities at all grade levels within academics, music, fine arts, and athletics. Thank you for weaving in Indigenous perspectives and worldviews informed by the Indigenous Education Department and the Indigenous Education Council, and for your efforts to make learning inclusive and accessible for all.
I particularly enjoyed meeting and celebrating the many students, staff, and community members who joined us in-person at monthly Board Meetings this year. From international students to Early Childhood Educators, we heard from many inspiring voices and learned from your impactful projects and experiences.
I also extend my gratitude to the Representative Advisory Council of Students who championed initiatives like the Youth Mental Health Toolkit and the Climate Action Forum. I can’t wait to see how your leadership carries on to next year’s cohort.
To all 2026 graduates, congratulations on completing such a big milestone in your educational journey. I wish you much success in all your futures.
I wish you all a very safe, fun, and restful summer. See you in September!
